lettering over stitches?

Forgive me for asking such a basic question. I am about to begin a kit to commemorate a wedding, and it involves stitching the name of the bride and groom, and of course the date of the wedding. Do I cross stitch the entire background area first and then add the names/date, or not stitch underneath where I will be adding the writing. I have cross stitched before, it has just been a long time.
Thanks!

The instructions should be in your kit on the order of stitching. If you haven't read them, do so right away before you begin stitching. Reading one or tow or more times until you understand what they are telling you. The company should also have a contact number you can use to get help directly from them. Go to top

I did read the directions and they offered little help, although I will read them again. No 800# either, just a snail mail address, so I guess I will use that. Thanks for your help! Go to top

Hi once more. I would do all the cross stitching first. Then I would do the back stitching of the names and dates after. I guess what they are trying to do is make it appear as though you have a printed "invitation" and the names have been added to the paper. I hope that makes some sense. Go to top

Thanks Maria! Your response makes total sense. I have done some cross stitch, and this is not my first piece of counted cross stitch. This one has to come out great, as it commemorates my daughters wedding! No pressure, right? THe wedding is not for a year- so I should be fine.
Thanks again for your response. Go to top
