Rose and Canival threads?

I recently purchased a bobbin box full of cross-stitch thread from a garage sale. The lady had carefully wound the threads on bobbins and then labelled them by brand and colour.

She had a few threads that were labelled "Rose" and "Carnival" with the number right next to the name (Rose, 575) just like she would with DMC/Anchor threads (Anchor 383). I've never heard of such names, nor has the women at the craft store I go to, who has 25 years experience. An online search found nothing.

Anyone have any idea what kind of thread this might be or where I can get conversion charts to convert it to DMC/Anchor?

Thank you!

Perhaps these threads could have been from a kit "Rose" or "Carnival" and she wanted them seperate from her other threads? Just a thought. Go to top

I thought of that initially. I did a quick web search and found there is a brand of embroidery floss called Rose-it's made in China. I tried to e-mail the company to see if there was a conversion chart, but their inbox was full and so my message didn't make it in.

Carnival is still a question mark.

I went through some more floss that I was given and came across another brand I hadn't heard of-Coats/Doli. It's made in India and so far I haven't found any conversion charts. *sighs* Go to top

If the floss the Coats/Doli is shiny, it could be pre WWII. The English used the term "embroidery silks" and this was a rayon type floss from India Go to top
