Have been only an Aida stitcher but would like to try linen, what count would be the best to begin, and any particular brand?

I mainly stitch on Aida, but I have fallen in love with stitching on Crossed Wing linen. Their 28 count is just as easy as 14 count. They sell from their website Go to top

Those colors look beautiful. I wish I had good enough eyesight to try stitching on one of them. Go to top

I teach a class on beginning linen - I usually recommend you take a small chart and start on something large like 18 or 19 count. You'll be stitching over 2 threads making the stitch count something like 9 or 9.5 stitches per inch. Starting on the really big counts will get you used to working over the 2 threads until you feel comfortable with it - and then you can start going down in count to the 28 and 32 and smaller counts. The biggest roadblock most of my students have is learning how to count the threads - working on the larger count makes them easier to see.
