Has anyone used DMC floss #4068 - the varigated camoflouge floss. I have a cartoon character project that I would like to make. It will be about 7500 stitches. Is this floss any different that using the DMC varigated floss at the other end of their spectrum.

Thanks for your imput

Nancy, DMC #4068 is a DMC Variations floss. It is an OVERDYED rather than a variegated thread. (They didn't really help with the name Variations, did they). The two are very different and yield very different results. If you go to www.needlepointforfun.wordpress.com and lock for the post "Using Variegated and Overdyed Needlepoint Threads", you will find a long and informative discussion of the difference between DMC Variations (overdyed) and DMC Variegated floss (which is "space dyed"). This will help you make your decision. Personally, I think using the 4068 Camoflage would be way cool. Live long and prosper, Pamn Go to top

Nancy, I forgot. When you stitch with overdyed floss, you want to stitch each stitch at a time, English style (completing the X before doing the next X). Doing Danish style (completing the bottom legs ////// down the row, then the top legs \\\\\ on the trip back) will give you a striped effect--not particularly attractive.

Thanks for you input Pamn. It is my intention to do one stitch at a time I'm makinag a cartoon strong man square for a veteran's quilt. Should be very cute. Notice you also have a name that has an unusual spelling. Wonder why mothers do that to us! Go to top

Hi, Nancy. OT In defense of my mother, she didn't name me (just my middle name), my sister did. This is probably why I don't care for my name, which is Pamela--nickname Pam. In my rebellious teens, I changed the spelling to "Pamn" as a kind of poke in the eye at my sister. Over time I've come to really like it and kind of feel like it suits me. Everyone I know, and most of the people I do business with think it's kind of cool. My maiden name (Pamela Lynne Hitchcock) sounded Terribly British, but NOTHING like my married name (Pamela Lynne Ravenscroft)! I kind of like that, too.
I guess I'm lucky: my name was almost Belvedere! Live long and prosper, Pamn Go to top

Hey Pamn - I decided not to make myself crazy using the overdyed and varigated floss. There are over 7000 stitches in that pattern and I would probably be crazy (or crazier) by the time I finished. I am making a copy of the pattern. Then I am going to make my own shapes and use solid colors to give the final result a camoflouge look. Seems to me that will result in a more "camo" look.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Go to top
