Has anyone tried a fractal pattern from Cross Stitch Collectibles? I'm working on my first one & was wondering if you had any tips on how to stitch it. It is going very slowly.

    Carol,

I've been collecting the free 'bookmarks' for a number of years and just this year finally took the leap to stitch one. I always start in the upper left hand corner and work my way across page one of the chart. I usually decide to work two, sometimes three rows at a time but only 30 or 40 stitches across at a time. Some people do it a 10 x 10 stitch square at a time but that seems like a waste to me. You really need to find what works best for you. When I do get started I usually start with the color that has the most coverage in the area I've decided to work. By doing that I have threads on the back to run my ends under when I need to finish with a thread. I hope this helps. Enjoy your day and happy stitching...Judy :) Go to top

Judy, I did that on page 1 (there are 30) but it took forever. So I started doing the 10 stitch grid bit. Still a long time. I have resorted to threading needles with all the colors AND doing it with the grid technique. Guess this one is just going to take forever. I've been stitching over nearly 30 years & I think this is the biggest project I've ever under taken (300x310 stitches). Silly me, I ordered 3 more patterns along with this one. The others are even larger (350x350). Guess I know what I'll be doing for the next few years. Go to top

        Carol,

It is quite overwhelming and it won't take you forever just longer than a smaller coverall. I think part of it taking so long is having to thread all the needles so often. I know some ladies who work say the 10 x 10 grids will leave the thread on the needle and then just put the needle in the next space that same color shows up. I don't totally understand how to do it but it seems to work for them. If you're not a member of the 123 message board, http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-bin/BBS/bbs_forum.cgi, I would suggest you check it out. You have to register to join but it's free and the people on there have answers to everything. When you do post just be sure to make your subject something like "help stitching large projects" or something like that. Then you can type in the body of the message what help/suggestions you need. I don't think your silly for ordering more of the patterns and once you figure out what method works best for you, you'll go faster and be looking forward to working the others. Just be patient with that learning curve. Enjoy your day and happy stitching...Judy :) Go to top
