I am doing a picture of a person, and I will be using a lot of white thread for the hat and background. I had planned on using a beige-colored material, but I am worried that the white stitches won't look right. Does anyone know a good color material to use?

Use a bright white DMC 5200 instead of the regular DMC blanc. Have you considered a grey or black fabric. Go to top

You can always wash it when you're done. I use Fels-Naptha bar laundry soap to hand wash finished counted cross stich. It doesn't take out the color and you can scrub in certain areas where the dirt is without worrying about it. You can find this soap in most grocery stores. (In AZ anyway) Go to top

TWO SUGGESTIONS: Assuming that you are using regular embroidery floss like DMC or Anchor and aida cloth.
#1 - use three stands of floss
#2 - stitch a practice piece about 3 x 3 inches. Look over it again and again for several days and decide how it looks to you

Have not tried either of these ideas
