I have been cross-stitching for 20+ years and you would like I would know how to finish a project...In the past, I've put my name and the whole year; but are initials and complete year better? On family projects I have made in the past I usually put my name and 1/2 of the year. You would think I would know by now...Thanks....

Hello, Pamn Ravenscroft here. I think I "sign" my work differently than anyone. I have a kind of cartouche or chop made up of my initials and the last two digits of the year. That goes in an inconspicuous spot on the bottom edge of the design. Then, using a very small and simple block style backstitch, I put my full name, city and state, and complete date (dd/mm/yyyy) stitched on the edge way up under where the mat goes. If no mat is to be used in the framing/finishing process, I put it close to the edge where the piece wraps around the backing board. I do this for "posterity", not for ego. I read somewhere a long time ago that this was the preferable way to sign a piece and I've done it for lo these many years.
Live long and prosper, Pamn. Go to top

    Sue,
I stitch for charity where projects are to be sold so those don't have any initials or year. But when the charity is not selling the project, I include my initials and state. If there is room I'll add the year to these projects.

I hate my initials dnc, it reminds me of the procedures for female problems.

So I usually use my first name, Debbie, or for some projects I have used my board name, Busydebbie....it makes me smile:)

Use the four digits for the year.
