Altering Pattern Size

I have a cross stitch pattern that I want to use to make a baby blanket. Problem is the pattern is only 95 stitches by 120 stitches. How do I alter the pattern size to fit the blanket which is 540 stitches by 540 stitches?

Is it the sort of pattern that you could do multiple times around the edges or just in each of the 4 corners? To make a design larger, you will have to cross over more threads on the blanket. Instead of stitching over two threads, you might have to go to 4 or even 6 or more. You have to use more plies of floss or go to a perle cotton thread, perhaps a 5? Then too, if you enlarge a design that way it might become too large and the end result is not as appealing. Perhaps others may have a better idea on how to achieve this. Go to top

It's to big, it will distort and look really blocky. I've tried and anything over a 2:1 ratio doesn't blend colors correctly, and it can just look likt blacks stuck together, and you are asking for a 4:1, If you have something in 14 or 16, you can use 18 count and cross over two sqares, so it looks like 9, just remember to double the floss thread count. Anything larger that just doesn't seem to work. Go to top

I've used cross stitch designs in baby quilts. My suggestion would be to stitch your design and use it in the center. I'm not sure whether you could get waste canvas that would accomodate 95 X 120 stitches but if you could, that would also work. Go to top
