I've been thinking about making some bookmarks for St. Jude's. Which is better, perforated paper or Aida? Will the paper last long or just fall apart when used a lot (by children)? I've never worked with perforated paper, so I don't know. I have used vinyl weave a lot for placecards, plant pokes, etc. Would that be a good alternative (to paper)? I'm also looking for finishing techniques for Aida bookmarks-something simple and quick that will hold up to heavy use. Thank you! BTW-Anita-I love your site!

I've stitched alot of bookmarks with aida and vinyl aida. I don't think preferated paper would hold up too well. Go to top

    Darla,
Thanks for the compliment on the site which celebrates 10 years. I have to agree with Ruby regarding bookmarks stitched on perforated paper. I would suggest aida or vinyl weave instead.

    Darla,

I have stitched many bookmarks on perforated paper and still using them. They are easy to finish as you just cut them and I back mine with wrapping paper or any other type of paper that coordinates with the front. Of course if you don't want to back it you don't have to but I do just to make it look more finished instead of seeing the back of your work. Happy stitching...Judy :) Go to top

Thank you all for your replies! I will probably just stick with the vinylweave since I'm used to that. Go to top

Sometimes I used ribband which has finished sides. I back with a piece of felt and the fusible web. Go to top

Pauline-what is ribband? I was thinking about using felt and fusible web to back the vinyl weave, but don't know how it will work. Guess I'll just have to try different things and see which suits me best. Thanks, everyone, for your ideas! Go to top

Ribband is also called ribband ribbon fabric. I purchase it in Michael's or in A.C. Moore. I's manufactured by Bucilla and is usually 14 count Aida that comes in a roll or in strips. The edges are finished in different colors. This way, you don't have to worry about binding the sides, just the top and bottom. It can also be used for embroidered cuffs, pillowcase and towel edgings - anywhere you want a finished border edge. Go to top

I also prefer ribband for my Bible markers:)

Sounds great! I will definitely have to check that out. I don't think I have ever seen this stuff so maybe the Michael's stores where I live (Phoenix)don't carry it. Thanks (again!) everyone! Go to top
