I am not an experienced but have done some cross stitching. It has been a long time since I have done anything. I want to do it again and have either forgotten or never knew what the Stitch Count means. Example...pattern I am looking at;
STITCH COUNT: 40 x 46
Design area: 22-1 3/3 x 2 1/8
18- 2 1/4 x 2 5/8
14 - 2 7/8 x 3 3/8

Model Stitched on Country Cloth 14ct. using 2 strands for cross stitch. Can anyone explain...lol in simple terms.

Thanks

    It means that there are 40 stitched crosses across and 46 stitched crosses down. If it's done on 14 count Aida, the finished design would be 2 7/8 by 3 3/8 inches.
    The stitch count would always be the same. The design size would differ depending on the number of cross stitches to the inch of the fabric you use (18 count would have 18 cross stitches to the inch). Is that simpler? When you get into the smaller count fabric (like 28 or 32 count), then usually every two cross stitches would become one cross stitch (this means over two). Go to top
