Tea Towels

I have stitched tea towels and finger tip towels as gifts for years. I'm considering stitching a few for a craft fair. I have never done anything with the 'back side' of the towel. Do any of you use a backing to prevent the stitches from showing and/or fraying?

I'm not sure what's its called, but I reminds me of the iron on appliques. I had come across it on the web a while ago, someone had ironed on this fabric on the back of their cross stitch to hide the back of it. Go to top

I use adhesive/iron-on interfacing, the kind of interfacing used in making clothing, collars, necklines, etc. There is one that has an adhesive on one side so you don't have to sew it on. You can usually find it at any large sewing store. Go to top

as noted by another stitcher.. use iron on interfacing.. cut it a little larger than the finished design, round the corners and press with hot iron... this is similar to iron on denim patches used on, mostly, the knees of boys pants... lol
makes a nice backing. Go to top
