Do you work the white areas?

I think mine look better unworked. My threads look so thin sometimes it looks like sewing thread, or so thick it looks too bulky next to the other parts of the designs.

No, I do not work the white areas. How many strands of floss are you using on your project? They should all look alike. What size fabric are you using? Go to top

I usually use a single thread doubled on my needle. I use 14-20 count Aida. I prefer to use 20 count most of the time. Go to top

2 strands of floss should be more than ample. Go to top

My personal preference is to stitch the "background". I always use 14-count Aida cloth. I always feel that unless all the material is stitched, it appears to be 'unfinished'.

If the pattern I'm following calls for filling in with a number (such as white on white aida) I usually follow those guidelines. But it depends on the fabric and design. I think you really have to stand back and look at each individual project and make that determination. I stitched a country goose ornament for Christmas that suggested filling in but it looked fine without. Suzee Go to top

I fill in white on white - blue on blue, etc if there is nothing around it to define it,or I backstitch the outline of it. But if it's surrounded by other stitches I usually don't fill it in. Go to top

If the pattern calls for it to be stitched, then yes. Otherwise, no. I think the blank "background" adds dimension, making the cross-stitch "pop". Go to top
