Has anyone worked with the "Hobbyware" viewer?
I found a site that has some wonderful patterns. They are very large. When they are printed, they are so small. I was wondering if I am doing something wrong or if there is a way to print them larger? The one I printed was 130x130. It printed out on 2 sheets, but only used half of each sheet.
This is the site. I have no idea what language it is! They are zip files in .PAT format, but they do not open in PCstitch!

    Rose,
I haven't used this software before so I can't help you. However, you may want to contact the company directly and ask them.

      Thnaks Anita.
I started to email them. Then I thought that maybe I better play around with it a little and I think I figured it out. I don't really care to use it. Their patterns are also .PAT like PCstitch. But, they won't open each others charts. My PC is set so that if I click a PCstitch (.pat) that it will open in the PCstitch viewer. The Hobbyware file has the same icon and there is no way to distinguish between the two until you click. I have very few from Hobbyware, so I have to keep them in a separate file. Go to top

        Rose,
If you open the Pattern Maker software then go to the file menu and click "Open" then select the pattern you would like to open. I use this program to convert some of the free patterns on the site to PC Stitch format. These two programs don't open each others patterns so it can be confusing.

Do you have a regular program or just the browser for Hobbyware? I just downloaded the free browser because I found some patterns that used it. There is no place on it to do any editing or copy and paste. All it does is view and print. But I did go into the page set-up. If the pattern is large you set it to more pages then the pattern will be larger. I don't know how you could do any converting on what I have! Go to top

Hobbyware makes Pattern Maker. If the creator makes the pattern, 15 stitches/inch, then the Pattern Maker viewer will only display it at that size. Unfortunately, it all depends on how the pattern was saved. In Pattern Maker I usually save it at 300 or 250% of size. This gives me a easily readable chart. If you have the full version of Pattern Maker, then it does matter because you can resize it, with the viewer you can't.

If you want, give me the site and I'll download them and resize and send to you.

    Hello, Rose!
Two diffirent softwares use .pat extension - PCStitch and PatternMaker. Charts you reffered are made in PatternMaker and should be seen in it's viewer. It can be downloaded free from manufacturer site:
    http://www.hobbyware.com/pm_downloads.htm
From version 4 extension is .xsd , but viewer can show files from previous versions. Viewer prints chart in the zoom ratio as seen - i.e. if you set zoom to 50% - chart fits to one page A4 or Letter, if you set zoom to 100 or 200% - printed chart will be divided to 2 or 4 sheets.
I hope, my explanation not too long and you'll get the wishing result
    Good luck! Go to top

The patterns on that site are in PAt. They are Hobbyware Pattern maker files. They DO Not and are not suppose to open in PCstitch. I do know how to unzip them and they DO open in Hobbyware's Patternmaker. Since I made that post, I have played around with the Hobbyware program. My question at the time was, how do I print them so they are larger. They printed out too small to see. I have since figured them out. Thanks for trying to help. Go to top

I'm starting to understand now what your problem is and you're right, you cannot open PC Stitch (.pat) files in Patternmaker. I tried Patternmaker once before and it took over my computer. Changed all my PC Stitch .pat files to their .pat files and I could no longer open them in PC Stitch. I think you have to declare which of the two programs is the default. I know this sounds confusing but I'm trying to tell you why I quit using Patternmaker. Go to top

I can't email you. You have no email link!

Your Hobby ware didn't "change" your patterns. Every file format is configured to open in a particular program. Your PC views both Hobbyware and PCstitch the same. They are both .pat, but yet the programs will not open each others files. This is what I do: I keep all my Hobbyware files in a folder together and separate from my PCstitch files. If you right click on a file, you will get options. There is an "Open" and and "Open with". If you use "open", it will open with assigned program. If you use "open with", it will give you choices what to use. So, if you click right click on a PCstitch file, click "open with", choose PCstitch, then click the box on the bottem that says "always use this". All the .pat files will use PCstitch to open pat files from then on. To open Hobbyware files, I open the Hobbyware viewer, click open file. It will bring a box up that asks what you want to open. So, I look for the foldeer that I saved the Hobbyware files in, click it and it opens. If you mistakenly double click a Hobbyware file to open it, you will get an error file.

I know we're off the topic and this is post #17 on here! I do all my searching at Google. Then from those search I sometimes get links. I also get a newsletter with links as of recently. I haven't even done any cross stitching for a while now. I did 3 printed cross stitch. Now I'm crocheting. I just search for patterns as a hobby. I just finished organizing 3-4 disks I had cross stitch on. I think there were about 1500 files! Go to top

Well I just played with one of the charts and I got it to print out. It printed the key on one page and then it printed out 2 other charts for the pattern. It printed fine for me. Connie Go to top
