Chrismon ornaments frames

Our church group has stitched Chrismon ornaments for our church tree. We have searched high and low for frames with no success. We have also searched for alternative methods to frame these so we can use them for years to come.

Any suggestions?

Betty

If you are looking for the small ornament size frames, I have seen them on ebay. Go to top

Betty sorry I can't help you with the frames, but I would love to see the ornaments you stitched - where did you get the patterns? Go to top

Betty, I once had tons of little plastic frames but, after holding on to them for years and not using them, I gave them to a charity organization.

Sorry.........however, check out this site that has many ideas for finishing projects, including ornaments. Perhaps there is a few easy idea that your church group could do. You could always make them into magnets as well.

I stitched some Chrismons for my church last year. Mine were the size of a 50 cent piece. So I bought some ornaments that are used to insert photos. The ornaments had a hinged back. I used the paper inside as a template so I could cut and insert the stitched portion then close the back and it was read to hang. Go to top

Besides frames, why not finish them as ornaments. (I can't really suggest any frames, as I don't know what size you are needing...)
Two places to go get great instructions on finishing the stitched pieces as ornaments:
The Just Cross Stitch Christmas Ornament Issue (now in bookstores and available at online LNS), and the blog Focus on Finishing, which is full of finishing ideas and each has a full tutorial (with photos at each step) and has links to others on the web. You can find it here: http://tinyurl.com/5wtjny

    Good luck!

Betty, did you ever find any frames? Our church is in the process of cross stitching Chrismons now for next year and I can't seem to find frames either. Go to top

I've made LOTS of these. If you work on 22 ct they fit in gold plastic hoops used to hang curtains. Cover back with a circle of felt or put 2 together. I've also used the larger 2"-2 1/2" gold frames. I would also think they may fit on large covered buttons, but I haven't ever tried that yet :-) Go to top

Hi, I finish all of my ornaments in a method that I've never read in any of the ornament pattern books. I take a piece of aida fabric, of the same size and count of my ornament, and cross stitch the two pieces together in a border about 2 or three rows from the stitch area. I do the top border first, and using a doubled piece of thread about 7 inches long(usually the green or red thread used in the ornament)create the loop to hang the ornament (tying it on the inside), then do two more border sides. I then stuff the ornament with about 8-12 cotton balls, and cross stitch the final border to close. I then cut the outside edge of the ornament to 5 rows on all four sides, and pull the threads of those five rows on all four sides to make a fringe. I will often personalize the back side before stitching them together (ie to/from/date/message etc). Go to top

I've seen these in the small gold frames. However, I wanted to be different. So after stitching the individual ornament, I added batting and a backing, stitched around so the edges were unfinished ( i pinked the edges) and tacked on gold braid. The fabric backing was a cream color with gold running through it. I plan to make these ornaments again, only this time using blue Aida. I do have a good sized collection of these patterns. I am no longer a member of that church but at least 5 or so years later, I had a meeting there and saw the ornaments on the tree. I am also working on a quilt - took me 3 years to collect Christian fabric: the words to "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", fabric with churches and crosses on it, and more. My husband does not share my faith. I made this into a 9 patch with sashing - top was almost finished. We moved. I could not find the quilt and assumed my husband threw it out among other things. Five years later I rummaged in the attic and there at the bottom of a box was the quilt. Now....... I just need to finish it! Go to top
