I have a question about doing cross stitch on perforated paper? How hard/easy is it to do? I can't imagine stitching on "paper", but, I need someone who has done this to inform me the pro's and con's. I have seen some really cute Christmas tree ornaments and I have an order ready to send, but, first need answers. Thank you, I'll be watching for posts.

Stitching on perforated paper is somewhat different from stitching on fabric, but it is fun to do. Perforated paper, of course, has to be held so that it does not bend. The "feel" of stitching on it is different. Sometimes the needle just falls through the hole. Pulling the floss too hard can sometimes tear the hole. Try it; you'll like it! It is just a matter of getting used to the "feel" of stitching on perforated paper. Go to top

Thank you for your quick reply, guess I'll adjust my order and narrow it down to one ornament till I see how it goes? I've been reading that when finished your "trim" the work with craft sissors down to "one block" around the finished work? What do you do with the one block that's not finished all around the ornament? Hope I don't appear stupid, but............. Thanks again for the quick answer.

        Anna,
If you trim close enough, you won't notice the block but you still will have paper around the stitch. Here is a close-up of a bookmark I stitched on perforated plastic:

Thanks Anita, I'll give perforated paper a try, wanted to make 3 tree ornaments for grandchildren. I also read where you can "sticky" down the edges of the p/paper to give you something to hold onto?
Love this site, so many helpful people and all kinds of free patterns to try.

I have stitched on perforated paper, vinyl evenweave, and perforated plastic. All are good materials to stitch on for ornaments, magnets, cards, etc. However, with the perforated paper and perforated plastic, you can't do any half or quarter stitches on this type of material. I prefer the vinyl evenweave since I am able to do these types of stitches on this material. If you buy white or cream perforated paper, you can spray paint it to whatever color you would like. I've done this in the past with good results. I hope this helps.
