So I'm fairly new to cross stitching and was wondering if anyone had any tips on where to buy thread in packs and such. I've only done kits at this point other then one simple one I tried on my own which I only needed two basic colors for and I want to increase my supply so I can start to do more complex designs without a kit.

I've purchased bags of floss from garage sales and thrift stores. You can purchase a pack of all 454 colors of floss directly from dmc-usa for $199.99 with free shipping. JoAnn's and Michaels offer smaller packages. I would not recommend either of these options. You end up with colors you will never use and run out of those you use a lot of like #310 (black) or #666 (red). If you don't have a local cross stitch shop try JoAnn's or Michaels for individual skeins. Some WalMart stores (not all) have floss. There are lots of on-line stores like Everything Cross Stitch that will give you a discount with your first order. Go to top

thanks everyone for the replies! Ive stalked the three craft stores that are in my town JoAnns michaels, walmart and acmoore due to them all being on the same road luckily for me unfortunately for the world of cross stitching not much there. Ive had more issues as ive said in another post of finding the exact colors i want. i have tried going based off name and then based off number but the closest ive found to the number i want was called a different color and number. ill have to try and get the pack you mentioned but i dont have $200 to spend on thread so id have to buy a smaller pack i appreciate the advice! If you decide to purchase individual colors, make sure you go to a store that has DMC on sale. For instance, check the Jo-Ann ads. At times, DMC is on sale and you can usually find 20% off sale and regular priced coupons. AC Moore and Michaels seem to not put DMC on sale. Go to top

Pauline -- Recently I read something about DMC not allowing retailers to sell floss below a certain price. That is why we don't see three or four for a dollar anymore. Oh, for the days when you could get ten or twenty for a dollar! Go to top
