DMC thread confusion

I've bought a giraffe design off of etsy and the chart is calling for the color is dmc #434 "cigar brown." I went to Micheals, walmart and JoAnns to try and find the color but could only find other colors, I even had the design with me and the closest color was light brown but was not the same number but when I shop for the color online searching #434 in dmc thread it says that is "light brown" Can anyone explain why and how to prevent this confusion in the future?

From my experience with kits from Dimensions, Bucilla, etc., I only go by the DMC number and not the color. The kit companies have different color names but the DMC numbers have been accurate. Go to top

I have emailed the "powers that be" on this site, asking if there is a way we can exchange emails without the emails appearing on the message board. I have not yet received the courtesy of a reply. Go to top

            Pauline,
I must have missed your email. At this time there is no way to exchange emails between users. That would require a lot of work for me to set up and then require that people sign up.

                Pauline,
Sure - go to mailinator.com and create a one-off account for communicating with people on this board. Mailinator.com was created for that. You can also post your address with some change and then spell out in the line after what needs to be removed. For example joeREMOVETHIS@hotmail.com. Just delete REMOVETHIS before replying. That prevents any automated code from finding your address.
