Floss numbering

Four years ago I made a cross country move and recently (finally) found my cross stitch supplies. Question - Will my old collection of floss still maintain the same numbers, or do the companies ever reassign numbers as the change and/or increase their lines? ie, as I start a new project, can I assume that the colors called for in the charts (by number) will coincide with the numbers on my present collection of floss?

    If the floss is DMC, you would be able to visit their site and see the available numbers. Go to top
