Need advice on finishing Christmas stocking

Finally getting around to finishing son's Christmas stocking. It's been many years since I've cross-stitched & am feeling overwhelmed. Any advice for getting "back into the game"? It has a lot of color changes - not sure if I should work on an area with the same color, or switch colors to complete rows. To make matters worse, my eyes aren't what they used to be, so it's taking me longer to get stitching again. Help!

    Annie,
It actually depends if it is entirely cross stitched, I mean with no background showing. I actually threaded needles with each color and after I started my project(one that had over thirteen shades of brown) I just switched from each color. Sometimes I only had one stitch in the middle of several so I just threaded that single stitch through the back of the others and then continued where I left off. I hope this makes sense and helps. This also saved floss in the long run. Not having to thread through the back each time then cut also keeps the project back looking neater and less bulky. I wish you the best on your Stocking and Happy Stitching!

A belated thank-you, Lisa! That sounds like a great idea. Right now I'm so overwhelmed looking at this stocking - I just need to get started again & start plugging away. Wish my eyes were as sharp as they were when I started this project! ?? Go to top
