Not even sure just how to present this

I have been "requested" by my youngest grandson to replicate a college mascot picture that I did for his older brother, however he wants his to be "unique".

So it was decided that his would be the mascot, sitting atop the school's state letter, which happens to be an "O". There in lies my dilemma.

I am wanting to do the entire picture on 11 count, but since he is having this made for a friend, he is wanting to add a message of some sort and wants it to be put in the center of the "O".

I know that I could do the entire project on 22 count doubling the stitches, then having the room to accommodate his message, but what I was wondering is if there is any way to "Insert" (for lack of a better term) a piece of 22 count into the center of the "O" done on 11 count?

    Kim,
This sounds a bit tricky since cross-stitch fabric tends to fray once it’s cut. I can’t think of any good solutions right now, so I’ll need to give it a little more thought.
