Amanda,
If you have a Michael's store near you, they sell the very fine #4 braid you need. If you don't have this store near you, go to the following site and scroll down to the Kreinik Very Fine #4 Braid section. You can order directly from the site. I've ordered from this site many times and have had wonderful service!

The fine braid from Kreinik #4 is the best for a beginner stitcher to use. You can easily tie the end in the eye so it won't slip so much. Also when working with metallics shorter is better. The DMC 3 ply is more like Kreinik cord and I prefr this type more for backstitching. If you worry about the ends fraying while you stitch, just dab on a bit of clear nailpolish or fraychek and let dry and start stitching. Thread the needle first before you use of above mentioned products, it's easier getting the braid in the needle that way.
