There was a post on here from Stacey who was looking for an owl bookmark pattern. I found the pattern and was going to email it to her, but the post disappeared and I didn't write down her email address. I don't believe Stacey would have deleted it. She really wanted that pattern. Why was this post deleted? Was this seen as a copyright infringement? If so, then why are all of these other posts here? What's the point of this board if we can't share patterns? BTW-The pattern was published in a magazine and therefore is in the public domain. I do not see how that could be a copyright infringement. I can see how sharing patterns from kits would be because the owner would not be getting paid for that. However, I see those kinds of posts on here. I don't mean to be snotty and rude, I'm just trying to understand.

    Darla,
The post was removed because Anita and I do not want the boards to become a haven for people to distribute copied patterns. Patterns in books, magazines, or any other printed material are still subject to copyright laws. Some cross-stitch pattern authors even go so far as to limit the distribution of the stitched projects. The only exception is if the author explicitly states the pattern is free for public distribution. Yarntree.com has a very good page regarding copyrights and patterns:

    http://www.yarntree.com/066copyr.htm

When the site first started, we even had some cross-stitch designers request that we remove the pictures that gallery owners posted since they claimed it was violating their copyrights. This is a free site and the last thing we need is a lawsuit so we are always going to avoid any potential problems. Go to top

Thank you for clarifying. The link was very helpful. I have had questions in the past about copyright infringement and this answered most of them. I do apologize. I do not wish to break the law. I hope Stacey sees this and understands. I apologize for letting her down as well. Go to top

    Anita's husband-
Would it be okay for me to mail the magazine to Stacey? I really do feel bad about not being able to help her and I don't need it anymore. Go to top

      Darla,
It's okay to mail the entire magazine to someone. As for sharing patterns on this site, we are unaware of it and if it does happen, we try to stop it. My husband and I can't control what others send privately via email.

Thank you, Anita and husband!! Stacey-if you are okay with giving me your address, email it to me at darla.cramer@gmail.com and I will mail the magazine to you. Again, my apologies to everyone! I never intended to do anything illegal (or against Cyberstitchers' policy), I just wanted to help. Go to top
