pattern viewer vs pattern maker

When ever I try to download a pattern I receive a message that PatternMaker does not recognize this pattern but when I look at PCStitch Pattern Viewer my patterns are there that I have previously downloaded. My question is, can I uninstall HobbyWare Pattern Maker and still be able to download patterns from here? Thanks for all your help.

Actually you don't need to uninstall either program. You can always open the patterns by first running the PCStitch Pattern Viewer and then selecting the pattern using the File -> Open menu. But if you prefer to be able to open directly by double-clicking the pattern, you will need to tell Windows to associate the .pat extension to PCStitch instead of PatternMaker. To do this, simply right-click on the pattern and select the Open With... item in the menu. Next, select the PCStitch viewer. Finally, click the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" check box. The last step is the important one. If you don't do that, you will have to always open using the "open with: menu or through the program's Open menu. Hope this helps. Go to top
