Can you stitch incorrectly?

I hadn't cross stitched in 20 years and picked it up again a couple of weeks ago. Regarding the 1 2 3 4 manner of stitching, I have always completed the stitch by coming up through the left top corner and down through the lower right instead of up through the lower right corner and down at upper left. Is this a totally incorrect way to stitch? It gives beautiful results but may be using more floss

That's how I stitch. If that's not the "correct" way of stitching, when the thread police come a knocking at my door, I shall not let them in! Go to top

As long as all the bottom stitches and all of the top stitches are going in the same direction it really doesn't matter. I usually stitch left to right. Recently I found myself in a situation it was more convenient stitching right to left on the same project. When finished you could tell that all the bottom stitches were lower right to upper left of the squares and all the top part of the stitch were lower right to upper left. You could not tell the difference. Go to top
