Faded fabric

I have a cross stitch Aida piece in which the black fabric around the stitches has faded significantly, but the cross stitch itself (a cheetah) is fine. Does anyone know how to solve this? I thought of perhaps coloring the background, or maybe cutting the cheetah out and applying it to another piece of fabric, but don't know if either is doable, let alone how to do it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It would be a lot of work, but you could cross stitch the background with black floss. It might be possible to use black fabric paint/dye, but I don't know how you would keep it from bleeding into the stitching. Go to top
