Washing Counted Cross Stitch Projects

If you plan on framing your completed cross-stitch project, it's a good idea to hand-wash first to remove oils from your hands and any other dirt.

Materials Required

  • Dish Washing Detergent
  • White Terrycloth Towel
  • Iron
Braided Cording

Instructions

  1. Fill a sink with cold to tepid water and add a small amount of mild dish washing detergent to the water. Place your completed project in the water and soak for one to four hours. If the fabric is heavily soiled, you may need to soak as long as 24 hours.
  2. Drain the soapy water from the sink and rinse the completed project thoroughly with cold water. Make sure all of the soap has been removed.
  3. Braided Cording Place a terrycloth towel next to the sink and transfer the project to the towel. Do NOT wring or twist your project! Instead, roll the towel up with your project inside. Press down on the rolled towel to absorb the excess water.
  4. Braided Cording Remove your project from the rolled towel and place face-down on a dry towel. Carefully iron on a low to medium setting (depending on fabric) until completely dry.
